Orange: the change. Its face sits in front of the dial plate, its wheel behind itNumbered plates on the stand match the steps aboveThe person who owns a part of a change makes that part. The dial plate is the line: in front of it is what you can see and verify by looking, behind it is the movement you must reason about. In one direction the engineer builds the wheel behind a stop lever (the flag) and the owner polishes the face and ships it. In the other the owner builds the face first and the engineer wires the movement behind it. The blade behind the dial is the engineer's check, and a change sent back across the line is the safeguard working. On every second lap (a demonstration cadence) the owner's sub-dial reaches through the dial plate and goes back.
